Many people avoid Hailrake until they are overleveled, then run back from the Mud Flats waypoint to kill him and get the flask reward. Once he stops firing ice spears you can probably kill him, but be careful as he will start firing ice spears again as soon as his mana regenerates. He will cast 3 or 4 ice spears at you so run round him to avoid being hit/ frozen. deal with the adds first by "luring" them away from the boss. The same principle applies as for Fire Fury, i.e. He will always be in a big pack of normal monsters.

How to not die: Hailrake usually spawns in the bottom left corner of the map near a wrecked ship. Why he kills you: His attacks freeze you, then you get mobbed while frozen. Failing that you can just run past her and keep on running towards the Mud Flats/ Tidal Island until she stops chasing you. If you want to avoid her then sometimes there is a path by the coast that lets you miss her out completely. If you are melee then standing next to her will make her stop using firestorm. The key to beating her is to keep moving or you will be firestormed and mobbed. Slowly peel of adds when you get close to her until she starts attacking. How to not die: She always spawns about halfway through the map, on a raised area surrounded by a large plateau (that is usually crowded with other monsters). Why she kils you: She keeps casting firestorm so you take fire damage, then you start to burn, then all the mobs around her start hitting you/ throwing rocks at you/ spitting gravel(?) at you and your gear just isn't up to scratch at this point in the game (you might not even have any extra HP). Later in the game you will find that staying in one place means that EVERY ranged attack, spell, melee attack that you could have dodged has hit you and you will rapidly die. You may fall into the (bad) habit of just sitting still and plugging away at anything you see as it doesn't really matter early on. It is far safer to clear the area out as much as possible before initiating the fight. You can also practice hitting Escape/ Log off until you can do this fast enough to quit if you are about to die.ĭon't go piling straight into a fight with one of these monsters as you will also have to face any normal monsters that are in the same area.

In general there are three methods that help a lot fighting any of these monsters:Īlways open a teleport nearby so you have a way to escape back to town.

This is a list (probably incomplete) of where you are most likely to get killed when playing through Normal for your first time through the game. None of these monsters are particulary hard to kill but they might give a new player a nasty shock if they aren't prepared.
