
There, Xehanort comments that, although the Queen is under the influence of Darkness, she maintains order in her world: it may be that her perspective regarding Light and Darkness is not universal, and that such a conflict could pose a problem for the upper class, and even cause their defeat. They eliminate the Heartless created by the darkness of the Queen of Hearts and leave Wonderland, regrouping with their companions at Scala ad Caelum. Thanks to the Cheshire Cat, they return to the Queen, and Xehanort guesses that his Darkness comes from his own anger. In Wonderland, Xehanort, Eraqus, and his mate seek to return to the Queen of Hearts to learn more about the Darkness in her heart. Despite the negative nature of these emotions, they made Xehanort realize that he was capable of sentience. Looking back, he realized that these were people he had never met before. During this journey, he experiences the attack of the Darkness, hears unknown voices and feels the negative emotions of these people. Xehanort recalls his journey through the Darkness Passage that brought him to Scala ad Caelum. Xehanort and Eraqus decide to stay in Wonderland to find out more about it.įour years later, Xehanort is again arrested by the Queen of Hearts and seems pleased that she's still under the influence of the Dark. The Keyblade wielders defeat him and realize that the darkness in people's hearts is the real threat they will have to face, and not just the Heartless.

They intervene in the trial and discover that the Queen of Hearts rules Wonderland through fear, and that she is under the influence of Darkness: her Darkness manifests as an aura that even summons a Heartless. Xehanort's group discovers that his friends have been taken prisoner by the Card Soldiers by order of the Queen of Hearts. In Wonderland, the students planned to meet during their investigation, but one of the two groups did not show up. He thinks the difference lies in the interactions he had with his friends at Scala: even the smallest can sway a heart, towards Light or Dark. Xehanort recalls that his apprenticeship on Scala ad Caelum was basically quite similar to his previous life on Destiny Islands: monotonous, but also peaceful, familiar, and comfortable. Eraqus joins him there, and they say goodbye before Xehanort leaves to see the outer worlds as part of his Mark of Mastery exam. However, there they face the Heartless, creatures of the Dark, who until now had only existed as projections of the future created by the Book of Prophecies.Įraqus and Xehanort in front of four tombsįour years later, Xehanort is in the Scala ad Caelum cemetery, laying flowers in front of four graves. Xehanort shares his knowledge of the outer worlds with his classmates, as he is the only one to have set foot outside of Scala ad Caelum, after which the students split into two groups investigating Agrabah and Wonderland, which are are in various stages of recovery from the Keyblade War. Baldr, the seventh member of his class, receives a special mission in his place: his sister is among the missing students and Odin did not wish to worry him. Master Odin calls his students: Xehanort, Eraqus, Hermod, Bragi, Urd, and Vor, and asks them to go find the upper class.

One day, a hooded figure appeared to her and opened a Dark Passage to allow her to leave his homeworld.


He wondered if he could one day leave his island and meet these friends in his dreams. On Destiny Islands, Xehanort felt the world was too small for his taste and was haunted by dreams of a Keyblade wielder from another age. and even his machinations as an adult to start a new Keyblade War and summon Kingdom Hearts. However, each episode also touches on other moments in Xehanort's life, including his youth on Destiny Islands before reaching Scala ad Caelum with the help of his future self, his own journey as part of his Mark of Mastery exam. The main story takes place during Xehanort's apprenticeship in Master Odin's class at Scala ad Caelum, when the Master is forced to send his students in search of the Upper Class, other Keyblade wielders students who went missing during his Mark of Mastery exam. The story of Dark Road is presented in the form of episodes.
