The casual dining room is fabulous and is proving to be a great spot to linger after dinner. The kitchen is super functional, easy to keep clean and has lots of storage to tuck things away when I’m done using them. My taste has gotten a little less traditional over the years, and although I’m still a traditionalist at heart, I had some fun with this kitchen and took some chances. “This is the second kitchen I’ve had the opportunity to design for myself. This is a great project if you are wanting to learn how to tile but don’t have a backsplash or floor to tile. Lesson: ask your friends for help if they just finished a tiling project!

Plus a few extra friends let me borrow their tiling tools. I recently helped a friend tile her backsplash for the first time and I’m hooked on tiling…you have to try it! Since she had leftover materials, I used her mortar and grout to make this project easier.

Unfortunately it was not a match, but as I was holding the sheet of tile I realized it would be a great vase. I originally bought this tile thinking it would match the tile in our bathroom. This vase! I’m adding it to my favorite DIY list.
